Grow Wellington is the Regional Business Partner for Tech NZ - the Ministry of Science and Innovation's business investment programme.

Tech NZ is focused on growing world class New Zealand companies through innovative technology.

MSI is looking to invest $40 million in 2010/2011 generally at a rate of 50% across a range of companies, from early stage to mature companies and in four priority sectors: ICT, Food and Beverage, Manufacturing, Biotechnology. Investments outside of these areas are on a discretionary basis.

Applications follow a straightforward process: following discussion with Grow Wellington, applicants complete a new client registration form and an online application form. The application is reviewed and if successful, contracts are completed and the project can commence. Tech NZ reimburses the applicant once the work is complete and a project report and invoicing is provided. Typical timeframes for approval can range from one week to a month, depending on the size and the complexity of the project.

Angel HQ is the Wellington region’s angel investment network. We can help young companies with aspirations for high growth get the investment they need to achieve their goals, while generating a healthy return for investors. We’re known for our prediliction for deals with a certain ‘geek’ factor in them, technology is one of our preferred areas of investment.

Applications are made online and the process is as follows:

Phone or Skype interview with club manager
Pre-screening meeting with several club members
Full screening by club manager and team
Invitation to present at a club meeting, held quarterly

Typically, individual angels will invest between $20,000 and $100,000 in any one deal. More often than not, club deals are syndicated with other member clubs, networks and partners in the Angel Association NZ.
