Internships

Improving connections with tertiary organisations is a great way to improve business capability in the Wellington region and to invest in the next generation.

Grow Wellington is committed to helping businesses who have a desire to innovate and grow, but are lacking either specialist skills or an extra pair of hands to achieve business goals.

There is a range of ways in which tertiary organisations can help a business to achieve its goals. Internships, Masters and PHD projects are a great example of this and in some cases support can be provided through Grow Wellington and government programmes, for example through the TechNZ Capability Investment grants.

Below are few of examples of programs businesses may benefit from;

TechNZ Education Funding

MSI education funding encourages innovative businesses to involve postgraduate students in their R&D programmes. This helps the business develop new knowledge leading to the commercialisation of a new product, process, or service.

Funding is paid directly to the university. It administers the funds on behalf of MSI and pays the student. The business pays the direct and mentoring costs as they gain a commercial return from the new knowledge generated in the project.

MSI Undergraduate Internship Funding

Run every year over the summer period. The internship programme provides funding of $16 per hour for up to 400 hours of work upon proof from the business of payment to the intern ($6400 max.). MSI will pay businesses GST on top of this funding ($7360 in total max.) This funding is paid directly to the business employing the student.
