The Kapiti Coast is set to play host to the debut feature of Wellington-based filmmakers Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland, Shopping.
Inspired by Mark and Louis’ own experiences growing up on the Kapiti coast, Shopping is set in 1981, seduced by a charismatic career criminal, 16 year old Willie must choose where his loyalty lies, with a family of shoplifters or his own blood.
Shopping is supported by the New Zealand Film Commission, Park Road Post, and Fulcrum Media Finance.
Mark and Louis’ previous short films Run and Six Dollar Fifty Man have screened at Cannes, Sundance and Berlin film festivals with Six Dollar Fifty Man making the final ten of the 2011 Oscars shortlist, an incredible achievement for these New Zealand filmmakers.
Film Wellington will work alongside the Council(s), landowners and the crew to provide on-the-ground information, permits and liaison during pre production and principal photography.
Shopping is being produced by Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw and will be distributed in New Zealand and Australia by Madman Entertainment.
