Innovating for Health Challenge launches in 2012

The Innovating for Health Challenge is about identifying research-based and clinical innovations that have commercial potential in the healthcare market. The Challenge will connect researchers and clinicians with entrepreneurs and sources of funding to assist in the growth of new businesses in the biomedical sector.

The Challenge is supported by Grow Wellington and is in collaboration with the Wellington region’s innovation and investment community.
 
Grow Wellington is working closely with New Zealand Trade & Enterprise [NZTE] on opportunities for the leading innovation/s from Innovating for Health to pre-qualify for NZTE’s national, Focus on Health Challenge 2012. Further details of this will be made available before the beginning of Stage 2 of Innovating for Health. 
 
The Challenge is being marketed to organisations within or associated with the sector including District Health Boards, universities and polytechnics, Crown Research Institutes and other research entities, sector-based businesses and industry bodies representing the sector. Submissions will however, be accepted from other sources provided they meet the general criteria.
 
Innovating for Health is open for submissions from 4 January 2012 through to 30 March 2012. The second and final stage of the Challenge will run from 2 April 2012 to 7 July 2012.
 
The leading innovation will be announced in early July and will receive $50,000 seed capital.
 
We are interested in ideas/concepts/innovations at various stages of growth:
  • Research-based ideas with potential for practical applications in healthcare
  • Prototypes
  • Pilot stage innovations
  • Innovations at first or second stage Research & Development
  • Business Plans
  • Innovations that may already be generating revenue
What are we looking for?
  • Submissions should show there are opportunities for health-related application/s of the idea or innovation
  • Originality or an original/novel application
  • The potential for commercialisation
  • Provides opportunities for the idea to be supported and developed in the Greater Wellington Region
